Jan Janssen
I don't actually remember a time when I didn't write stories.
But I never decided to 'become a writer' until I was in high school.
And my first 'job' as a writer was as a reporter for a
newspaper.
I quickly discovered that the short, sweet, to the
point style of writing required, wasn't quite what I wanted. I
wanted prose. I wanted imagery. I wanted...to write fiction. And
now, after years of other things taking priority in my life, writing
is finally front and center.
My first book, Loving Ben, took
much too long to write, but finally saw the light of day. It
was published by Whiskey Creek Press in February 2004. When it made
the finals of the 2005 Eppies I was thrilled!
My second
book, Mission of Mersea, is a Contemporary Romantic Comedy, and I
had tons of fun writing it. I particularly enjoyed writing Hamish,
the heroine's Cairn Terrier. He fairly leapt from the pages!
(Terriers have a way of doing that.)
Now that the writing is
finally starting to take shape, I discovered there's a whole other
part to it that I didn't know about. Promotion! I thought that you
wrote the book, put it out there, and readers naturally flocked to
get it. I may have been a little wrong on that. So, here I am. While
I continue to write my next book, I also learn how to sell it. And I
hope that my readers enjoy all of them!
In my other life, I'm
Executive Editor for the Torrid Division at Whiskey Creek
Press...but that's for another time. :)
Besides promoting on
Flowers and Hearts, I have my own website at http://www.janjanssen.org/
When
you check it out, be sure to sign up for my newsletter. I'm always
looking for fresh vict...uummm...readers to spread my good news
to!
