With a B.F.A in Theatre and a M.A. in English, and having taught English in secondary schools for 17 years, I never dreamed that teaching English would be easier than writing it. Throughout several life choices, modeling, acting, mothering, teaching, horse breeding and riding, I never dreamed I'd write a novel. But I have and I'm loving it.
When the last career step paled, I took early retirement from teaching and made a wonderful move to the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York where I lived with my attorney husband (also an author), a happy-go-lucky mixed breed dog and two personality plus cats. Although I moved to a more sedentary life and grand solitude, I needed some sort of all-encompassing goal. Having done a bit of writing before, here and there, as a reporter and business woman, I selected novel- writing as a new challenge, never realizing the difficulties involved. I charged into the world of writing with both feet. Now, I freely admit it's the most difficult, yet satisfying, career of my life.
I became a member of the Romance Writers of America (RWA) and numerous chapters under that affiliation, the World Romance Writers, the International Woman's Writing Guild, EPIC, along with a host of other writing organizations. I even started the, now defunct, Adirondack Writers' Guild.
I sold my very first novel, The Gunn of Killearnan, a historical romantic adventure, set in 1650 Scotland during the time of the War of the Covenant (Bishop's War). Along with excellent reviews, the novel received the Scribe's World Reviewer's Choice Award and won the Love Romances Best of 2001 Award in two categories Best Historical Romance and Best e-romance! The novel became a finalist on the Ohio Valley RW Chapter's Notable New Author of 2001 Award contest and in the RWA Holt Medallion in 2002.
Unlawful, another historical romantic adventure is set in Irish medieval times (852 A.D.) when Viking raids were numerous. The book came out in January 2002 to outstanding reviews, great sales and the Word Weaving Award of Excellence.
My third book, Saratoga Summer-1863, is the beginning of a series about the Irish O'Malley brothers. 1863 is about Connor, a horseman who loses his bachelorhood in a family lottery and leaves his beloved Ireland, his family and his horses to sail to America. He arrives at the onset of the Civil War Draft riots and must flee with his new unplanned family. They arrive in Saratoga at the time of the first legalized racing card there. The sequel, Saratoga Summer-1864 will be available soon.
Now, the husband and I have moved again, to small Hudson Valley Village near my beloved Saratoga.
We now have a new house, some acreage and two rescued English Setters.
Our books were out of print but have just been picked up by www.cambridgebooks.us, another publishing company. They should reappear, revised and reedited, soon.
